The original brief, and the four things research changed
Five deliverables, eight days. Here's the brief as given, where each stands, and the four assumptions that turned out to be wrong under evidence.
No human has read a word of this. Machine output, published raw so the reasoning can be attacked before anyone polishes it. Judge the chain, not the copy — if a numbered step is wrong, say which.
The brief as given
| # | Deliverable | Due | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Finalise short-term messaging (workshop realigned, Thursday) | This week | Position re-cut. Strawman ready. |
| 2 | Product press release — website, with product input on AI advances | TBC | No longer blocked. They already have a named agent. Strawman ready, needs one number. |
| 3 | LinkedIn article tied to the release | Follows #2 | Should ship from Meaney's profile, not the company page. Draft ready. |
| 4 | Homepage carousel section — HubSpot ops | Follows #2 | Three of four slides need no product input. Ready. |
| 5 | Pull-up banner (coffee competition, InvestOps) | Printer Fri 4th | Hard deadline, decoupled from #2. Three routes. |
Also in the brief: define the company, identify the top five competitors, and collect every social post, whitepaper and product release from them and their competitors. That became the corpus — and it turned out to be the part that mattered.
The four things that changed under research
| # | The assumption | What the evidence showed | Consequence |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | No named AI agent, no AI number — the release is blocked on product supplying both | Rex. 95% of conversations, 42% independently resolved, 94.1% CSAT, +10.8% QoQ, n=699. Plus a published, reconciliation-side Capital Call Data Extraction Agent. | Release unblocked. The job is to surface what exists, not invent something. |
| 2 | Supervised autonomy is open ground | Contested by four of six. Duco runs the triad on a stand; AutoRek, Xceptor and SmartStream all make it. | Position re-cut from the argument to the audience — the accountable party. |
| 3 | 3,523 followers, ~53 staff | 6,126 followers, 60 associated members, band 51–200. | Any comparison built on the old numbers is void. |
| 4 | Financially opaque; venture debt implies loss-making | $10m+ ARR, growth 15%→49%, ~10% net margins, Rule of 40 of 59, 93% PoC-to-close — self-published, May 2026. | They are not fixing a broken company. That changes the tone of everything. |
Critical path
Banner Friday 4th → workshop Thursday → InvestOps 15–17 Sept → Irish Funds 1 Oct.
Only the banner has a genuinely fixed date. Everything else is sequenced by the two speaking slots, which are the highest-leverage assets in the engagement and were not in the brief.
The calendar nobody flagged
| When | What |
|---|---|
| 2–3 Sept | PostTrade360, Stockholm. Duco, Gresham, SmartStream and Xceptor all there. Fund Recs is not. |
| 15–17 Sept | InvestOps Europe, Hilton London Metropole. Fund Recs sponsoring. Meaney moderates the "AI 360" panel — Man Group, Royal London AM, Partners Capital, S&P Global. Themes: AI governance, accountability, auditability; human-in-the-loop controls; measuring success beyond headcount. That panel is the messaging brief. |
| 1 Oct | Irish Funds Annual Global Funds Conference, CCD Dublin. Meaney on "Scaling from Ireland". Keynotes: Taoiseach, CBI Governor, EU Financial Services Commissioner. |
| 31 Dec 2026 | T+1 interim deadline — same-day allocation and confirmation. |
| 11 Oct 2027 | T+1 live, EU/UK/CH. The largest dated event in the market. Fund Recs publishes on it 7 times to the field's 53 — while holding the only client-stated T+1 outcome in the category. |
